The phrase 'obedience of faith' (Romans 1:5) is often understood to mean either the obedience that springs from faith, or the obedience which is faith itself. In Paul's view, true faith always produces obedience. It is not merely intellectual assent but a holistic allegiance to Jesus as Lord.
