Passages in context
Current coverage includes Ephesians, John, Philippians.
Union with Christ is the Bible’s way of describing believers as joined to Jesus in his death and resurrection life. This union changes what defines a person: sin is no longer the ruling master, and a new life becomes possible. Scripture uses shared-death and shared-life language to show both a new identity and a new power source for obedience.
This theme appears in passages such as John, Ephesians, Philippians, where the Bible develops it through story, instruction, warning, and promise. In John 6:35–51 Jesus explains that he is “the bread of life,” meaning he is the one who truly satisfies and sustains. He contrasts coming to him and believing in him with the crowd’s refusal to believe despite seeing him. In Ephesians 1:3–6 Paul opens with praise to God, presenting God as the source of a comprehensive set of “spiritual” benefits given to “us” in connection with Christ.
Start with John 6:35-40, Ephesians 1:3-4, Philippians 1:1, then follow the related passages in their own setting before drawing broad conclusions.
A theme page is strongest when it follows the Bible's own contexts. The goal is not to collect matching words, but to see how repeated ideas develop across passages, books, and the whole biblical story.
10to an administration of the fullness of the times, to sum up all things in Christ, the things in the heavens, and the things on the earth, in him;
3Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord, Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ;
4even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we would be holy and without blemish before him in love;
7in whom we have our redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace,
10For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared before that we would walk in them.
5even when we were dead through our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace have you been saved),
6and raised us up with him, and made us to sit with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,
11according to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus, our Lord;
12in whom we have boldness and access in confidence through our faith in him.
30because we are members of his body, of his flesh and bones.
31"For this cause a man will leave his father and mother, and will be joined to his wife. The two will become one flesh."
32This mystery is great, but I speak in regard of Christ and of the assembly.
27My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.
28I give eternal life to them. They will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand.
29My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all. No one is able to snatch them out of my Father`s hand.
30I and the Father are one."
19Yet a little while, and the world will see me no more; but you will see me. Because I live, you will live also.
20In that day you will know that I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you.
1"I am the true vine, and my Father is the farmer.
2Every branch in me that doesn`t bear fruit, he takes away. Every branch that bears fruit, he prunes, that it may bear more fruit.
3You are already pruned clean because of the word which I have spoken to you.
4Remain in me, and I in you. As the branch can`t bear fruit by itself, unless it remains in the vine, so neither can you, unless you remain in me.
5I am the vine. You are the branches. He who remains in me, and I in him, the same bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.
6If a man doesn`t remain in me, he is thrown out as a branch, and is withered; and they gather them, throw them into the fire, and they are burned.
7If you remain in me, and my words remain in you, you will ask whatever you desire, and it will be done to you.
8In this is my Father glorified, that you bear much fruit; and so you will be my disciples.
9Even as the Father has loved me, I also have loved you. Remain in my love.
10If you keep my commandments, you will remain in my love; even as I have kept my Father`s commandments, and remain in his love.
11I have spoken these things to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be made full.
20Neither for these only do I pray, but for those also who believe in me through their word,
21that they may all be one; even as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be one in us; that the world may believe that you sent me.
22The glory which you have given me, I have given to them; that they may be one, even as we are one;
23I in them, and you in me, that they may be perfected into one; that the world may know that you sent me, and loved them, even as you loved me.
24Father, I desire that they also whom you have given me be with me where I am, that they may see my glory, which you have given me, for you loved me before the foundation of the world.
25Righteous Father, the world didn`t know you, but I knew you; and these knew that you sent me.
26I made known to them your name, and will make it known; that the love with which you loved me may be in them, and I in them."
35Jesus said to them. "I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will not be hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty.
36But I told you that you have seen me, and yet don`t believe.
37All that which the Father gives me will come to me. Him who comes to me I will in no way throw out.
38For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will, but the will of him who sent me.
39This is the will of my Father who sent me, that of all who he has given to me I should lose nothing, but should raise them up at the last day.
40This is the will of the one who sent me, that everyone who sees the Son, and believes in him, should have eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day."
53Jesus therefore said to them, "Most assuredly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you don`t have life in yourselves.
54He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.
55For my flesh is food indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.
56He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood lives in me, and I in him.
57As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father; so he who feeds on me, he will also live because of me.
58This is the bread which came down out of heaven -- not as our fathers ate the manna, and died. He who eats this bread will live forever."
1Paul and Timothy, servants of Christ Jesus; To all the saints in Christ Jesus who are at Philippi, with the overseers and deacons:
21For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.
1If there is therefore any exhortation in Christ, if any consolation of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any tender mercies and compassion,
10that I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, becoming conformed to his death;
12Not that I have already obtained, or am already made perfect; but I press on, if it is so that I may take hold of that for which also I was laid hold of by Christ Jesus.
8Yes most assuredly, and I count all things to be loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus, my Lord, for whom I suffered the loss of all things, and count them nothing but refuse, that I may gain Christ
9and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own, that which is of the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith;
13I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me.
19My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
