Literary Context
This verse sits inside the travel scene leading up to Elijah’s departure and Elisha’s succession (2 Kings 2). Elijah and Elisha have been moving together from place to place, with groups of prophetic followers aware something significant is about to happen. The Jordan functions as the final boundary before the climactic events that follow. Verse 8 is written as a compact miracle report: a concrete gesture, an immediate effect in nature, and a result that advances the journey. It also sets up what Elisha will later need to do and be recognized for.
