2 Timothy context is set in the apostolic age, where The early church and the writing of the New Testament.
2 Timothy presents Paul near the end of his life, urging Timothy to continue in the gospel with courage, endurance, sound teaching, and confidence in Scripture.
After a personal greeting and thanksgiving, Paul calls Timothy to courage; uses examples of faithful and unfaithful workers; warns about corrupt teaching and difficult times; gives a solemn charge to preach the word; and closes with personal requests from prison.
Read it as a farewell charge from a suffering apostle to a trusted coworker. Notice how personal details, warnings, and commands all serve the same aim: keep the gospel clear and keep going when ministry is costly.
Second Timothy is set during Paul's final Roman imprisonment in the mid-to-late 60s AD. With apostolic leaders passing from the scene and false teaching threatening churches, Paul urges Timothy to preserve faithful gospel ministry for the next generation.
