Literary Context
This single verse is the wrap-up of the opening “Wisdom calls” scene in Proverbs 1 (see Proverbs 1:20–33). Wisdom has addressed the “simple,” “scoffers,” and “fools,” describing how they resisted correction and ignored her counsel. The speech has moved from invitation, to refusal, to the consequences of refusal, and now ends with a brief promise to the one who responds. As a conclusion, it functions like a summary sentence: hearing Wisdom leads to safety; rejecting Wisdom leads to trouble.
