Literary Context
This line comes near the end of Psalm 121, a “Song of Ascents,” a short pilgrim psalm shaped as reassurance. Earlier lines raise the question of where help comes from and answer that help comes from Yahweh, who watches without tiring. The psalm repeatedly uses the same verb for “keep” to build a steady rhythm of confidence. Verse 7 gathers and summarizes the earlier claims: Yahweh’s watchfulness is not occasional but continuous, guarding the worshiper’s path and person as the journey continues toward worship and home.
