Literary Context
Psalm 4 is shaped like an evening prayer that answers conflict with instruction and trust. Earlier lines address opponents and call for sober reflection and right worship, then the speaker expresses confidence that Yahweh hears when called. Verse 6 comes as the pressure of the moment is voiced in the community: discouraging voices ask for “good” as if it were uncertain or unavailable. The speaker responds not by arguing with them, but by praying, shifting the focus from public opinion to Yahweh’s presence and favor as the decisive good.
