Literary Context
Psalm 65 is a praise song that moves from God’s presence with his people to God’s care for the wider world. Earlier lines celebrate God being approached and heard, and then describe God acting with power in creation, including stilling seas and calming upheaval among peoples (the immediate lead-in to this verse). Verse 8 continues that outward movement: distant regions notice God’s works, and the regular rhythm of day’s beginning and end is portrayed as a stage for joy. After this, the psalm continues by describing God’s provision through rain, fertile fields, and abundant harvest (vv. 9–13).
