Literary Context
Psalm 7 moves from urgent appeal to a confident ending. Earlier, the speaker claims innocence regarding the immediate accusations, asks Yahweh to judge rightly, and describes how wrongdoing rebounds on the wrongdoer. That larger argument sets up the last verse: if Yahweh judges with integrity and governs above all, then thanks and singing are the fitting response. Verse 17 functions like a final vow: regardless of opponents, the speaker will respond to Yahweh’s actions and character with gratitude and praise. This kind of ending also prepares readers for the psalms that follow, where lament and praise often sit side by side.
