Haggai says the LORD will “shake the heavens and the earth and the sea and the dry land” Haggai 2:6. He also speaks of shaking all nations as part of what follows Haggai 2:7.
In Haggai 2:6–9 Yahweh announces a coming, decisive upheaval that reaches beyond Judah to the whole created order and to all peoples. The shaking is presented as God’s act and as near in God’s timing. As a result, “precious things” from the nations will come, and God will fill the temple (“this house”) with glory. This passage sits inside Haggai’s encouragement to a discouraged community rebuilding the temple. Just before this, Haggai addresses leaders and the remnant, urging strength and continued work because Yahweh is with them, and because God’s covenant presence has not departed (2:1–5).
Haggai 2:6–9 presents Yahweh as the main actor.
A common mistake is to turn the wording into a slogan. The better reading keeps the phrase tied to the passage, the speaker, and the problem the book is addressing.
