Haggai declares, “The latter glory of this house shall be greater than the former” Haggai 2:9. In the same verse he also says the LORD will give peace in that place Haggai 2:9.
In Haggai 2:6–9 Yahweh announces a coming, decisive upheaval that reaches beyond Judah to the whole created order and to all peoples. The shaking is presented as God’s act and as near in God’s timing. As a result, “precious things” from the nations will come, and God will fill the temple (“this house”) with glory. This passage sits inside Haggai’s encouragement to a discouraged community rebuilding the temple. Just before this, Haggai addresses leaders and the remnant, urging strength and continued work because Yahweh is with them, and because God’s covenant presence has not departed (2:1–5).
