Nehemiah / Question
Nehemiah answered that "the God of heaven will make us prosper" and that "we his servants" would arise and build Nehemiah 2:20. He also told the opponents they had "no portion or right or claim in Jerusalem" Nehemiah 2:20.
In Nehemiah 2:19–20, local opponents hear about the rebuilding effort and respond with contempt and an accusation: “Are you rebelling against the king?” Nehemiah answers without negotiating the premise. These verses close the first public moment after Nehemiah arrives in Jerusalem and announces his plan to rebuild. Just before this, he has inspected the city’s damage and rallied local leaders and workers with the report that the king has backed him and that God’s “hand” has helped him (2:17–18).
