In Romans 1:18, suppressing the truth means resisting what is known about God and pushing it away in unrighteousness. Paul says creation gives real witness to God's power and divine nature, but people turn from honor and gratitude toward idolatry.
This begins Paul's case that humanity needs the gospel. Romans 1 does not say people lack every witness to God; it says they reject the witness they have and exchange God's glory for created things.
The passage explains sin as truth-resistance and misdirected worship, not only bad behavior. That is why the gospel must do more than improve morals.
