Romans / Question
Romans says people are justified by faith apart from works of the law because God declares sinners right with him by grace through the redemption in Christ. Faith receives God's gift; it does not give people a reason to boast.
Romans 3:21-31 answers the problem Paul has built from Romans 1-3. After showing that all are under sin, Paul announces that God's righteousness is revealed through faith in Jesus Christ.
This is one of Romans' central claims. It grounds assurance in God's grace and Christ's work rather than in religious performance or personal comparison.
Apart from works does not mean faith is empty of obedience. Romans will later describe new life. Here Paul is explaining the basis of justification.
