Spiritual Conflict and God’s Armor in the Bible
Ephesians teaches that believers face real opposition from spiritual powers, so they must stand firm in the Lord’s strength. God supplies armor—truth, righteousness, readiness in the gospel of peace, faith, salvation, the word of God—and calls his people to persevere in prayer.
In context
This theme appears in passages such as Ephesians, where the Bible develops it through story, instruction, warning, and promise. In Ephesians 2:1–3 Paul describes his readers’ previous condition. He portrays them as “dead” because of wrongdoings, and he explains this death in terms of a whole way of life shaped by the surrounding world and by a powerful unseen ruler at work in disobedient people. In Ephesians 4:25–30, the writer gives concrete rules for speech and relationships inside the church. Since they belong to one another, they must replace lying with truth-telling. Anger may occur, but it must not turn into wrongdoing or be allowed to linger.
