This theme appears in passages such as Ezra, where the Bible develops it through story, instruction, warning, and promise. Ezra 2:64–70 closes the returnee list by giving the full headcount of the community, then adding additional categories—servants and singers—and listing key transport animals. After arriving in Jerusalem, some leading families freely contribute money and goods toward restoring the temple on its site. Ezra 3:1 describes a moment when the returned Israelites, already settled across various towns, come together in Jerusalem at the start of the seventh month.
