Verse by Verse
Seven days, while the army is away Zimri’s reign is dated to Asa’s twenty-seventh year in Judah and is said to last only seven days, centered in Tirzah. At the same time, the people (the troops) are encamped at Gibbethon, identified as connected to the Philistines, meaning the main force is not in the capital.
The camp responds by installing Omri The encamped troops hear a report that Zimri has plotted and also struck down “the king.” In immediate response, “all Israel” there in the camp makes Omri—named as the army commander—king that same day, shifting loyalty from the palace coup to the military leader.
Siege of Tirzah and Zimri’s self-burning Omri and “all Israel” go up from Gibbethon and surround Tirzah, placing the capital under siege.
