Literary Context
1 Kings 3:28 serves as a concluding comment to the narrative of Solomon’s early reign, especially the well-known dispute between two women over a child (3:16–27). After the decision is delivered, the narrator steps back from the courtroom scene to describe the broader impact on the nation. The verse is written as a summary of results: report of what people heard, their emotional response, and the narrator’s explanation of why they responded that way. It sets Solomon’s reputation as a wise judge at the start of his rule.
