Completion and interior lining Solomon completes the temple and then lines the interior walls with cedar boards, covering from the floor up to the ceiling area. The floor itself is covered with fir boards. The point is that the inside is wood-covered, not left as exposed stone.
Creating the inner room and defining the main space At the back of the building Solomon constructs a twenty-cubit-deep cedar-lined room, set apart as the oracle, identified as the most holy place. In front of it, the remaining main chamber (the temple “before the oracle”) is forty cubits long. The logic divides the building into two major interior spaces by measurement and function.
Cedar decoration and the purpose of the oracle The interior cedar is carved with plant-like designs—buds and open flowers—so that everything visible inside is cedar, with no stone seen.
