Saul asks for a sworn guarantee about his descendants Saul tells David to swear “now,” pressing for an immediate commitment. He asks for two related promises: that David will not “cut off” Saul’s “seed” after Saul, and that David will not destroy Saul’s “name” from Saul’s father’s house. The point is protection for Saul’s continuing family line and its recognition among Israel.
