Literary Context
These verses fall within Paul’s exhortations about conduct (1 Thessalonians 4:1–12). After urging self-control and honorable behavior (4:3–5), v. 6 adds a relational boundary: conduct must not exploit or injure another person “in this matter.” Verses 7–8 move from warning to rationale: God’s call sets a direction for community life, and dismissing the instruction treats it as more than merely human counsel.
