5:12Meaning
Recognize and accept local leaders Paul “begs” the community to “know” (that is, acknowledge and properly recognize) those who work among them. He describes these people by what they do: they labor within the group, they stand in a guiding role “in the Lord,” and they give warnings or corrective counsel.
Unit 2 (v. 13a): Respond with esteem and love, for a reason
Paul adds what the church should do in response: show them strong respect and high regard, expressed “in love.” He gives the stated basis: it is “because of their work” because—their labor for the community is the reason for this honor.
Unit 3 (v. 13b): Aim at peace inside the community
The closing line broadens to everyone: “Be at peace among yourselves.” The instruction frames peace as a shared responsibility within the group, not only a leader’s task.
