Request for a master craft worker Solomon asks Hiram to send one highly skilled person who can work with precious metals (gold and silver) and base metals (bronze and iron), and who can also handle colored materials (purple, crimson, blue) and engraving. The passage uses ancient product names and measurement terms that do not map neatly onto modern labels, and it describes an international labor arrangement where “payment,” “provisioning,” and “gift” can overlap. Also, the narrative offers “great and wonderful” (v.9) as a qualitative description rather than a numerical building specification.
This unit highlights that Israel’s temple building involved real-world resources: specialized skill, imported materials, and negotiated agreements.
