Assembly and public reading Josiah sends for and gathers the elders of Judah and Jerusalem. He then goes up to Yahweh’s house with a very broad cross-section: city inhabitants, priests, Levites, and “all the people,” regardless of status. In that setting he reads aloud “all the words” of the discovered book, so the content becomes publicly heard and not merely known by officials.
