Literary Context
These lines sit inside Paul’s closing defense and appeal (chapters 10–13), where he answers criticisms and explains his way of working among them. Just before this, he describes how he has “robbed” other churches by receiving support elsewhere so he would not burden Corinth, and he frames his approach as consistent and intentional (12:13). Right after this, he insists again that neither he nor those he sent took advantage of them and he shifts to concern about what he may find when he arrives (12:16–21). The logic here supports his integrity and his motive: relationship and care, not gain.
