Theological significance

Jesus does not ridicule the disciples' hope for the restoration of Israel. He places the timing within the Father's authority and redirects the disciples from controlling the timetable to receiving the Spirit for witness. The mission begins in Jerusalem, moves through Judea and Samaria, and reaches the ends of the earth, so the widening testimony grows from Israel's story rather than replacing it.
