Ephesus was a major city in Roman Asia with strong civic pride tied to the cult of Artemis and the famous temple complex. Public theaters functioned as large meeting places where crowds could assemble quickly, whether formally or informally. The mention of “Asiarchs” points to high-status local leaders connected to provincial institutions and festivals, suggesting Paul had some relationships beyond his immediate circle.
