Two main details are debated.
First, “honey” may refer to bee honey or to a thick fruit syrup (often from dates or grapes). Either way, it signals sweetness and abundance, but interpreters differ on whether Moses is pointing to beekeeping specifically or to a broader range of sweet produce.
Second, “stones are iron” and “you may dig copper” may be read as a straightforward statement about mineral deposits, or as a stylized way of saying the land is richly resourced (including for tools and trade). The point is similar in both readings, but the level of geological precision differs.
The disagreements come from normal limits of vocabulary and idiom. Some Hebrew terms can name more than one substance (especially for sweeteners), and ancient speech sometimes compresses technical realities into memorable images (“iron in the stones,” copper in the hills).
A further pressure point is the scope of the promise “you shall not lack anything in it.” Some read it as an absolute guarantee for every person at all times; others read it as a broad description of the land’s capacity and typical provision, which does not erase later seasons of hardship described elsewhere.
