Two details can be read in more than one reasonable way.

First, “evil determined against him” can mean the king has already reached a settled verdict, or that the king’s intent is now turning decisively toward Haman but will be confirmed by what happens next. Either way, Haman understands the direction is now against him.

Second, the king’s exit to the garden can be read as a move to cool off and think, or as a dramatic signal that judgment is imminent. The verse itself states the anger and the movement, but not the king’s inner reasoning.

Why the disagreement exists The verse reports visible actions and Haman’s perception, but gives no direct access to the king’s thoughts. The Hebrew phrasing about “evil” can carry the sense of a fixed doom, yet the narrative’s next beats also show events still unfolding as the king returns and interprets what he sees.
