13:8Meaning
The charge and God’s stance God introduces a verdict with “Therefore… because.” The stated reason is twofold: these prophets have spoken what is false and they have claimed to “see” visions that are lies. On that basis, God announces personal opposition: “Behold, I am against you.” The repetition of “says the Lord Yahweh” underscores that this opposition is not Ezekiel’s opinion but God’s declared position.
Unit 2 (v. 9a): God’s active intervention
God intensifies the stance into action: “My hand shall be against” the prophets. The target group is described as those who “see” false visions and “divine” lies—people presenting their message as insight or revelation. The image communicates that God will not merely disagree; he will act to block and judge their influence.
Unit 3 (v. 9b): Three exclusions and the recognition result
Three results are listed in a tightening sequence. They will not be in “the council of my people,” they will not be written in “the writing of the house of Israel,” and they will not enter “the land of Israel.” The cumulative effect is removal from decision-making, from recognized membership, and from participation in Israel’s future in the land. The final line (“you shall know that I am the Lord Yahweh”) presents these outcomes as the means by which the prophets come to recognize God’s authority.
