No land inheritance; the LORD is their inheritance The priests are told they will have an “inheritance,” but it is not a normal property share. The speaker says, “I am their inheritance,” and therefore Israel is not to assign them a landed possession. The point is that their security and status are defined by their special relationship to the LORD rather than by real estate.
Priestly food from offerings and devoted things The priests are authorized to eat from specific offerings: the meal offering, the sin offering, and the trespass (reparation) offering. In addition, “every devoted thing” in Israel belongs to them. The verse presents these items as legitimate priestly support and as part of what is set aside for sacred use.

Literary Context

Historical Context
Ezekiel spoke to Judeans living under Babylonian control after waves of deportations from Judah. With Jerusalem’s temple destroyed and land disrupted, questions of identity, leadership, and future worship were pressing. This vision-set treats worship as something that can be ordered, protected, and funded in a renewed community. Land allotments, offerings, and food rules reflect an agrarian economy where households bring produce and animals, and where sacred personnel are maintained through regular contributions rather than ordinary farming holdings.
