Literary Context
This verse is the final line of the larger episode in which Yahweh appears near Abraham’s tent, promises a son, and then speaks about Sodom and Gomorrah (Genesis 18:1–33). Abraham’s extended back-and-forth has been an attempt to ask for mercy for a whole city on the basis of a smaller number of righteous people. Verse 33 does not add new arguments; it simply marks that the dialogue has reached its end and signals a transition into the next chapter’s events involving Sodom.
