Listen, chosen servant; do not fear Yahweh addresses “Jacob” and “Israel” as his “servant” and as the one he has “chosen,” calling them to pay attention. He identifies himself as the one who “made” and “formed” them “from the womb,” then adds a practical promise: “who will help you.” On that basis he tells them not to be afraid. The name “Jeshurun” is used as another way of addressing this same people, still linked with being chosen.

Historical Context
Many readers place these chapters in the late exilic setting, when Judeans lived under Babylonian control and faced pressure to doubt their future as a people.
