54:13Meaning
Children taught, resulting peace The verse begins with a sweeping claim: “All your children” will be taught by Yahweh. The picture is not merely informal advice but direct formation that comes from God’s involvement with the community’s next generation. The stated outcome is “great” peace for the children—well-being that is abundant, not minimal.
Unit 2 (v. 14a): Established on a right footing
The next verse opens with a foundation statement: “In righteousness shall you be established.” The community’s stability is tied to a condition described as “righteousness,” suggesting a settled order that is straight and reliable rather than crooked or chaotic. This line functions like the reason a safer life can follow.
Unit 3 (v. 14b): Far from oppression because fear is removed
The text then describes the lived experience: the people will be “far from oppression.” It adds an explanation—“for you shall not be afraid”—linking distance from oppression with the absence of fear as a normal response.
Unit 4 (v. 14c): Far from terror because it cannot approach
A second threat is named: “terror.” The promise is twofold: terror is kept away (“from terror”) and it also fails in its approach (“it shall not come near you”). The emphasis is not only emotional relief but also the prevention of looming danger.
