In such a world, “justice” and “robbery” are not abstract ideas but relate to land loss, labor abuse, and unequal power between elites and the vulnerable. Talk of an “everlasting covenant” evokes political and social stability that a community could not guarantee for itself. The mention of “nations” and “peoples” reflects life amid larger international networks and empires, where reputation and recognition beyond one’s borders mattered for survival and status.
Theological Significance
These verses ground future restoration in God’s own character. The text explicitly presents Yahweh as committed to what is right (“love justice”) and opposed to exploitation (“hate robbery with iniquity”).
