Historical Context
Isaiah’s later chapters address a community shaped by crisis, displacement, and the long shadow of imperial power over Judah and Jerusalem. The city’s fortunes had been publicly reversed, and its standing among surrounding peoples and rulers had been diminished. In that setting, the passage speaks in the language of honor and recognition: Jerusalem’s renewed condition will be unmistakable, not hidden.
