Remembering and questioning The passage opens with a turn to memory: “he remembered the days of old, Moses and his people.” The remembrance immediately becomes searching questions: where is the one who brought them up “out of the sea” with the shepherds of his flock? The image treats the people like a flock being led. The questions also recall that God “put his holy Spirit” among them, presenting the Spirit as a real presence within the community.
