Reconnect with God and receive his teaching Eliphaz calls Job to “acquaint” himself with God and be at peace, presenting this as the path for “good” to come. He then urges Job to accept the instruction that comes “from his mouth” and store God’s words inwardly, as something kept close and guiding.

The speech is internally confident and unconditional-sounding (“you shall…”), but it sits inside a debate where Job’s friends repeatedly misdiagnose him. The book’s wider context pressures readers to separate (1) what the poem says Eliphaz believes will happen from (2) what the narrative ultimately endorses as always true.
