The alleged act described Job begins with two connected possibilities: his “heart” being lured toward a woman and his actions matching that desire by waiting at a neighbor’s door. The first part points to inward enticement, and the second part paints deliberate planning to violate a neighbor’s marriage.
The self-curse penalty If he is guilty, Job calls down a humiliating reversal on his own household: “let my wife grind for another, and let others sleep with her.” The picture is of loss of honor and loss of marital exclusivity, a stark “measure-for-measure” consequence.
Why this deserves judgment Job explains why he treats this as intolerable: it would be a “heinous crime,” an “iniquity” fit for judges to punish.
