John 18:33–35
Pilate brings Jesus inside and asks if he is “King of the Jews” (John 18:33). Jesus challenges the source of the question; Pilate replies that Jesus was handed over by his own people and asks what he has done.
John 18:36–37
Jesus states his kingdom is not from this world and notes that otherwise his followers would fight. Pilate presses the kingship claim; Jesus answers in Pilate’s terms (“You ”) and speaks of bearing witness to truth.
John 18:38–40
Pilate asks, “What is truth?”, then tells the crowd he finds no case against Jesus. He offers a festival release and proposes releasing “the King of the Jews,” but the crowd demands Barabbas instead.
