Samson’s final prayer and stated aim Samson calls to Yahweh and addresses him as “Lord Yahweh.” He asks to be remembered and to be strengthened “only this once.” His stated purpose is immediate revenge against the Philistines “for my two eyes,” making the loss of his sight the specific injury he wants repaid.
Positioning at the building’s supports Samson takes hold of the two central pillars that the building rests on. He braces himself with one hand on each pillar, setting up the physical means by which the structure can be brought down.

Some still infer that the wider Israel–Philistine conflict is in view, since the targets include Philistine rulers.
