Literary Context
This line closes the short story that begins when Micah confesses to stealing from his mother, returns the silver, and the money becomes material for a carved image and a household shrine (17:1–5). Micah then installs one of his sons as priest, but later a traveling Levite arrives, and Micah hires him to serve as priest instead (17:7–12). Verse 13 functions as Micah’s final comment, summarizing his interpretation of the events: hiring a Levite completes his setup and, in his mind, secures Yahweh’s favor. The next episode (chapter 18) will test that confidence.
