26:40-41Meaning
Confession and humbled heart The people are pictured admitting their “guilt” and also the guilt of their fathers, specifically naming how they were unfaithful and “walked contrary” to Yahweh. Yahweh answers in kind—he also “walked contrary” to them—resulting in their removal to enemy territory. The turning point is internal and practical: their “uncircumcised heart” is humbled, and they accept that the punishment matches their guilt.
