Second, “didn’t depart from the temple” can be read as near-continuous presence (she was there constantly) or as a strong way of saying she was regularly and reliably there as a known worshiper. The text highlights constancy, even if daily logistics are not spelled out.
Third, “grew strong in spirit” can be taken as describing inner character and maturity, or as stressing God’s empowering presence in the child’s life. In either case, Luke is summarizing Jesus’ development as both human growth and life under God’s favor.
Why the disagreement exists Luke uses compact phrases without extra explanation. He also uses expressions that can be idiomatic (“didn’t depart”) and a number that can attach to two nearby ideas (“eighty-four years”). Likewise, “in spirit” can function as a broad description rather than a technical statement.
