Jesus comes into Capernaum; a centurion’s valued is seriously ill and near death.
vv. 3–5: Elders petition
The centurion sends Jewish elders to ask Jesus to ; they argue he is “worthy” because of his support for the community.
vv. 6–8: Friends and the authority analogy
As Jesus es, the centurion sends friends saying he is unworthy for Jesus to enter his house; he asks Jesus to a word and compares it to command structures under authority.
vv. 9–10: Reaction and outcome
Jesus remarks publicly on what he has heard; when the messengers return, the servant is found restored.
