vv. 24–25
The boat is already far from land and is battered by waves because the wind opposes it. In the late-night watch, Jesus came toward them, walking on the sea.
vv. 26–27
The disciples react with fear, assuming what they see is a ghost. Jesus speaks at once, urging courage and telling them not to be afraid.
vv. 28–31
Peter asks for a command to come to Jesus on the water. He exits the boat and moves toward Jesus, but fear rises as he notices the wind; he begins to sink and calls for help. Jesus immediately takes hold of him and challenges his doubt.
vv. 32–33
When they get into the boat, the wind ceases. Those in the boat respond with worship and a confession about Jesus’ identity.
