Leaders assemble for focused understanding The next day, not the entire crowd but the heads of families along with priests and Levites gather “to Ezra the scribe.” Their stated purpose is concentrated attention: they come to give careful notice to the words of the Law, seeking understanding that can guide the people.
A written command about living in booths During this study, they “find written in the law” an instruction traced to Yahweh’s command through Moses: the Israelites are to live in booths during the festival in the seventh month. The emphasis is on the command being written and on its connection to the community’s calendar.
Public proclamation and practical instructions They conclude that the command requires public dissemination. The directive is to publish and proclaim throughout their towns and in Jerusalem.
