Refusal to cleanse brings removal from the community The verse describes a specific scenario: a person is in an unclean state and does not cleanse himself as commanded. The result is that the person is “cut off” from the assembly. The reason given is that the sanctuary of Yahweh has been defiled, because the impurity-cleansing water was not sprinkled on him; therefore his unclean status remains.
