Repaying good with harm invites lasting trouble The saying warns that if someone answers kindness with harm—rewarding “evil” for good—trouble will stick to that person’s “house,” meaning their household life and ongoing affairs. The point is not only that it is wrong, but that it tends to set a pattern of ongoing fallout close to home.
Stop conflict early before it spreads Strife is compared to the first break in a dam: once the barrier starts giving way, the flow becomes hard to control. So the instruction is to end contention at the earliest stage, before it turns into open quarrelling and wider damage.
