1) “Don’t be a willing party to his death” (v.18). Some read “death” as literal physical death that could result from unchecked folly (e.g., criminal danger or severe consequences). Others read it as “ruin” or “a life undone,” using “death” as a strong image for irreversible collapse. Both readings agree the line heightens the seriousness of negligent or indulgent parenting.

2) “If you rescue him, you must do it again” (v.19). Some take “rescue” in a fairly concrete way (paying a fine, covering legal penalties, getting someone out of trouble). Others take it more broadly as repeatedly shielding an angry person from the consequences of his actions. Either way, the proverb’s point is that repeated intervention without change locks everyone into a cycle.

3) “He will not be touched by trouble” (v.23). Some read this as a strong promise of protection for the God-fearing. Others read it as a wisdom-generalization: reverent living usually brings a more stable life and fewer self-made crises, without claiming trouble never happens.

Why the disagreement exists

Proverbs is compact and image-heavy. Lines like “death,” “rescue,” and “not be touched by trouble” can be read either as literal descriptions or as intensified wisdom language. Also, Proverbs often states what is normally true and commends what is ordinarily wise, which can sound like an unconditional guarantee if read without that genre expectation.
